Beautifully colored historic map of Thomaston, CT, published by O. H. Bailey in 1879. The area along the Naugatuck River was referred to as "Plymouth Hollow" when Seth Thomas ventured there, moving his clock-making enterprise from nearby Wolcott, to manufacture metal-movement clocks. Seth Thomas manufactured long-case, table-top and mantle clocks, as well as large projects like the terminal clock at Grand Central Station in New York City. Thomas was an early pioneer of mass production and his products were shipped worldwide. He helped route the Naugatuck railroad through "Plymouth Hollow" linking it with nearby Waterbury. When the town was incorporated in 1875, it was named Thomaston, in Seth Thomas' honor. The map features clearly labeled street names with lively scenes of railroad, carriage and pedestrian traffic.
