Amsterdam 1737, Fabric Giclee Print Wall Map
Description
A spectacularly detailed map of Amsterdam dated 1737 on giclee printed fabric mounted to cherry finished solid wood slats. This remarkable bird's-eye view of Amsterdam indentifies every building, every house, street and canal of this European city which became the world's commercial and banking center in the 17th century. Since the Port of Amsterdam was the city's heart the map's perspective is taken facing the waterfront from the northeast, whereas traditionally birds eye maps are pictured from the south.
Today this layout is the old city center. Some canals have been filled and changed to roads, but generally speaking this map is still quite accurate.
A masterfully reproduced facsimile of the original map currently held in the Special Collections Department of the University Library of Amsterdam. Giclee printed on UV resistant durable waterproof fabric prevents fading over time. Mounted with French finished cherry wood slats on top and bottom, top slats slid together and mounting hardware is included. The finished product is a museum quality giclee print suitable for display in the most prestigious of art galleries.
