This bird’s-eye view print of Anoka, Minnesota was drawn by Albert Ruger and published by Merchant’s Lithographing Co. in 1869. Anoka was designated in the 1840's at the confluence of the Rum and Mississippi Rivers.
Anoka was a large producer of lumber in its early years. The community was served by the Minnesota & Pacific Railroad, which by 1869, was known as the Saint Paul & Pacific Railroad. It later would become part of the Great Northern Railway.
The map includes labeled streets, buildings and railroad route. There is an inset illustration of the Public School.
