Reproduction panoramic map of Antigo, Wisconsin, published by Norris, Wellge & Co. in 1886. The name Antigo was taken from a name that the Chippewa tribe used that meant "spring river" or "evergreen". This map captures the town of Antigo as it appeared just eight years after it was founded in 1878. The log cabin that was built by the first settler, Francis A. Deleglise, still stood on its original site and is referenced on the map. Today the cabin is on display at the Langlade County Museum. Lumber and saw mills were clearly established as the focus of industry in Antigo, with several mills and lumber yards referenced on the map. There are three charming inset illustrations on the map. The first illustration is a scene depicting the north side of Main Street, the second is The Spring Brook House and the third is an illustration of the first house built in Antigo, in March, 1878.
