This panoramic print of Ashland, Massachusetts was drawn and published by O. H. Bailey & J. C. Hazen in 1878. Ashland was a lively shoe and boot manufacturing town in the mid-1800's.
After its growth during the building of the Boston & Worcester Railway in the 1830's, Ashland thrived with its mills and factories up and down the Sudbury River.
In 1878, three reservoirs developed along the river, prevented any further development in those determined areas of the valley for decades.
