This panoramic print of Athol, Massachusetts was drawn and published by Lucien R. Burleigh in 1887. Athol was a leader in manufacturing interests in the 1880's with the production of textiles, leather and wood products, and metal tools.

In 1881, Laroy S. Starrett established the L. S. Starrett Company in Athol, producing fine quality tools.

Athol could be reached in those days by the Vermont & Massachusetts Railroad or the newer Fitchburg Railway.

The illustration includes labeled streets, buildings, waterways and railroad route.
