The village of Ballston Spa is situated in Saratoga County, and lies partly in the towns of Milton and Ballston. Portions of the novel Last of the Mohicans was written in the village, and it takes inspiration from the local scenery. George West, one of the first to start producing brown paper bags had numerous mills in the village, and the supposed inventor of the baseball, Abner Doubleday, was born here.
