Matteawan, N.Y. Burleigh Lithograph Establishment.

Reproduction panoramic map of Matteawan, now called Beacon, New York, drawn and published by Lucien R. Burleigh in 1886. Matteawan, on the eastern shore of the Hudson River, was an important fort during the American Revolution. Its nearby Beacon Mountain had served as a signaling point and war supplies were manufactured here. By the year that this map was published, the village had several factories and was known as "The Hat Making Capital of the U.S." The city of Beacon would become incorporated in 1913, and would include the villages of Matteawan and Fishkill Landing.
