This perspective map predates the Masonic Temple that now houses the Bedford City Museum by four years and captures the town as it appeared seven years after the "Great Fire of 1884" which had started in J. N. Early's store located on the SE corner of Bridge Street and Railroad Avenue. The town was to take on the new name of Bedford City in what was called "The Boom of 1890", with much of the original town of Liberty being rebuilt in brick after the fire destroyed most of the wooden buildings along Bridge Street. Inset illustrations of Hotel Bedford, the Belmont Seminary, the Randolph Macon College, the Bedford Railroad Station and the Jeter Female Institute are featured in the lower margin of the perspective map, along with fifty-eight referenced places.
