Bristol���s battle and slave-trading eras were set aside by 1891, and the community was enjoying its notoriety as a resort get-a-way.
With its close proximity to the Bay Islands and Mt. Hope Bay, Bristol was a leading luxury and sailboat building town. Nearby sailboat races were held periodically and visitors would fill the town's hotels and cottages. Bristol was served by the Old Colony Railroad.
