Historic Map - Bristol, RI - 1891
Description
This birds-eye view print of Bristol, Rhode Island was drawn and published by O. H. Bailey & Co. in 1891. Bristol was established in the late 1600's in the safe-haven of the ocean bays of Rhode Island.
Bristols battle and slave-trading eras were set aside by 1891, and the community was enjoying its notoriety as a resort get-a-way.
With its close proximity to the Bay Islands and Mt. Hope Bay, Bristol was a leading luxury and sailboat building town. Nearby sailboat races were held periodically and visitors would fill the town's hotels and cottages. Bristol was served by the Old Colony Railroad.
