Historic Map - Broadalbin, NY - 1880
Description
Reproduction bird's-eye view map of Broadalbin, New York, created and published by Burleigh Litho. Establishment in 1880. The village of Broadalbin, named for a region of Scotland, featured a fortress called "Castle Cumberland" during the American Revolution. By the 1880's Broadalbin contained two woolen mills. To control an ongoing problem with flooding of the Hudson and Sacandaga Rivers, a dam was created on the Sacandaga in 1930. The dam greatly reduced the size of Broadalbin, but created a much larger reservoir known as Great Sacandoga Lake. This map captures the town as it appeared fifty years before the dam was built.
This map from 1880 includes clearly labeled street names.
