Reproduction map of the r community known as Carthage, Missouri, drawn by T.M. Fowler of r Morrisville, PA and published by T. M. Fowler & James B. Moyer. After r the Civil War, Carthage, as county seat of Jasper County grew rapidly. r The Missouri Western Railroad arrived in 1872. Nearby lead mines and r limestone quarries contributed significantly to Carthage's growth, r making it one of the most prosperous towns in the area. The map features r clearly labeled street names with lively scenes of carriage and r pedestrian traffic. Map includes numbered references numerous Carthage r buildings. Map has been slightly restored to remove a few holes r including a distracting tear on the right side. Complete reference list r below.
