Historic Map - Chicago, IL - 1893 - Rand McNally & Co.
Description
This bird’s-eye view print of Chicago’s Columbian Exhibition was drawn and published by Rand McNally & Co. in 1893. The World’s Columbian Exposition of 1893 was a major boost to Chicago’s international popularity.
The highly anticipated celebration of the anniversary of Christopher Columbus’ arrival to the “new world” displayed the inventive features of the 1890's including Nikola Tesla’s newly patented high-frequency lighting system. Temporary and permanent buildings of all styles stood within formally designed grounds. George Ferris built his famous 264-foot wheel ride along the Midway Plaisance.
Over twenty five million visitors attended the event from May 1, 1893 until October 30, 1893.
The colorful reference map includes streets, buildings, bridges and waterways. It portrays port activity and railroad routes. Featured is an inset illustration of View of Chicago in 1832.
