Historic Map - Circleville, OH - 1876
Description
Reproduction bird's-eye view map of the city known as Circleville, OH, drawn by Prussian born Albert Ruger, and published by J. J. Stoner in 1876. Circleville is the county seat for Pickaway County, founded in 1810 along the Scioto River on what had been a Hopewell traditional circular berm. Its roads and buildings were built concentrically in a circular fashion to fit the existing earthwork, with an octagonal courthouse at the center. This proved to be an unsatisfactory layout and the streets were squared off by 1856.
