This bird’s-eye view print of Claremont, New Hampshire was drawn and published by Albert Ruger, Shober & Carqueville Lith. in 1877. Claremont was settled in the 1700's along the Sugar River.

Farming was the economic stronghold of the community in the early years until the industrial revolution, when the river’s water-power began attracting a broad number of manufacturing interests to the region. Claremont embraced the new era and profited highly because of it.

Sugar River maintained a number of mills and factories in the 1800's. Cotton and woolen goods were manufactured along with tools, machines and bricks.

The map, looking from the north east, includes labeled roads, bridges, buildings and railroad route. Featured is a detailed inset illustration of the Town Hall.
