Historic Map - Clearfield, PA - 1895
Description
This reproduction view of Clearfield, Pennsylvania was drawn by Thaddeus Mortimer Fowler and published by T. M. Fowler & James B. Moyer in 1895. Clearfield was established in 1840 along the west branch of the Susquehanna River. The boroughs design contained streets paved from bricks made by local brick making companies and designated public parklands along the river. Farming of corn and apples were important to the area. Several manufacturers set up factories in Clearfield during the 1800's including the Elk Tanning Company, known for their fine sole leather. The county courthouse was completed in 1860. The two and one half story Second Empire style brick building added a brick clock tower in 1884.
The panoramic map from 1895 shows Clearfield streets, buildings, bridges and railroad routes.
