Historic Map - Clifton Springs, NY - 1892
Description
Reproduction panoramic map of Clifton Springs, New York, published by Lucien R. Burleigh in 1892. Clifton Springs is a village in Ontario that was settled in the early 1800's. Valuable medicinal benefits from the local sulfur springs were soon discovered and, in 1806 a hotel was established as a spring water dispensary. The roads and railways brought thousands of visitors to this health resort during the 1800's. In 1892, construction began on the Clifton Springs Sanitarium building. The building was designed using a Richardsonian Romanesque style with a chapel that would include a famous glass mosaic of the Last Supper created by Louis Comfort Tiffany.
This bird's-eye view map from 1892 includes buildings, clearly labeled street names and railroad lines.
