Reproduction panoramic map of Deposit, New York, drawn and published by Lucien R. Burleigh in 1887. Deposit is a town in Delaware County that was organized in 1880 at the confluence of Oquaga Creek and the west branch of the Delaware River. The area had been the spot where lumberjacks working in the Susquehanna Valley held cut timber, hemlock and pine trees, awaiting favorable weather to be rafted downriver to Philadelphia. The hills around Deposit were dotted with dairy farms. By the 1890's Deposit was home to the Outing Publishing Company, publishing several periodicals.
