Historic Map - Emlenton, PA - 1897
Description
This panoramic print of Emlenton, Pennsylvania was drawn by Thaddeus Mortimer Fowler and published by T. M. Fowler & James B. Moyer in 1897. Emlenton was incorporated as a borough in 1859 along the Allegheny River. A wooden bridge was replaced in 1883 with the iron bridge shown here. In 1882, G. M. Sheffer established the Emlenton Machine Works. The Emlenton Woolen Mill went into operation in 1888 under the proprietorship of the Flynn Brothers. The company produced about five hundred yards of cloth daily and manufactured flannels and blankets. In 1897, Emlenton was enjoying the prosperous Pennsylvania oil boom days, as wells are indicated throughout the region.
The map from 1897 includes labeled streets, buildings, oil derricks and railroad routes.
