It was incorporated in 1887 as a city. By that time Findlay had become an oil and gas center. Other industries of the area included woodworking and furniture manufacturers, brick manufacturers and a woolen mill. Findlay was also recognized as a fine glassmaking community with several glass factories established there, manufacturing fine tableware, bottles and window panes. There were several newspapers in Findlay at the time including including one printed in German language only.
