Historic Map - Hagaman, NY - 1890
Description
This panoramic map of "Hagamans Mills", New York was published by Lucien R. Burleigh in 1890. The village of Hagaman, then called Hagamans Mills, was founded in 1777 along Montgomery County's Chuctenunda Creek. Joseph Hagaman built the first mill here. Later mills included Conner's Grist Mill which used three runs of stones and Conner's Saw Mill which contained an upright saw. H. Pawling and his son constructed a substantial stone dam on the creek and used its power to operated their mills. Their hosiery mill was established in 1857, consisting of a wood building, run by both water and steam with four sets of woolen machinery that could produce 15,000 dozen shirts annually. There was a large fire-proof picking room attached. Hagaman's manufacturers also produced hubs and pumps. One year after this map's publishing Mr. Pawling would build an ornate town hall that we know today as Pawling Hall.
The panoramic map from 1890 features buildings and clearly labeled streets.
