Historic Map - Hallstead, PA - 1887
Description
This panoramic print of Hallstead, Pennsylvania was drawn and published by Lucien R. Burleigh in 1887. Hallstead was settled in the late 1700's on the banks of the Susquehanna River. It was situated along the Great Bend and Cochecton Turnpike and became a popular stop-over.
The town was incorporated as a borough in 1874 using the name Great Bend Village. The Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad took great interest in the community, establishing a railroad hub and building a large roundhouse.
