This bird’s-eye view print of Hopedale, Massachusetts was drawn and published by A. F. Poole in 1899. Hopedale was settled in the late 1600's in the Blackstone River Valley.
A Christian utopian society was created at that location in the 1840's by Adin Ballou. George and Ebenezer Draper moved their loom production company to Hopedale at that same time.
In the 1850's when the town went bankrupt, the Draper Company purchased it and expanded their works to encompass the whole area. Hopedale maintained by housing and supplying the many workers of the Draper Company.
The illustration showing the Draper Company Works, includes streets, buildings and railroad route. There is an inset illustration of The Old House, built about 1700, razed 1874.
