Historic Map - Indiana, PA - 1900
Description
This aero-view print of Indiana, Pennsylvania was drawn by Thaddeus Mortimer Fowler and published by T. M. Fowler & James B. Moyer in 1900. Indiana was founded as county seat when Indiana County was established in 1803. The early community maintained interests in the harvesting of timber and with agriculture. The new county seat erected their first stone jail building in 1807 and a court house in 1808. Tanneries and a valuable carding mill were established here. Indiana was served by the Pennsylvania Railroad. In 1900, Indiana was beginning its coal era. The era lasted for decades and provided great employment.
