Reproduction bird's-eye view map of Johnsonville, New York, published by Lucien Burleigh in 1887. Johnsonville is a hamlet in Rensselaer County along the Hoosic River. The town was named after early settler William Johnson. During its early days Johnsonville gained several factories and mills to its river's banks and the community prospered as a manufacturing center. When the railroad reached the hamlet in 1830 industry boomed further with manufacturers gaining new access to transport their products.
