This panoramic print of Kankakee, Illinois was drawn by Albert Ruger and published by Chicago Lith. Co. in 1869. Kankakee became an important agricultural trading center in the 1800's with the addition of the Illinois Central Railroad.
Kankakee became the seat of government of Kankakee County in the 1800's and prospered as a reliable source of agricultural and horticultural products which were shipped to nearby Chicago markets.
The map looking northeast includes labeled streets, buildings, bridges and railroad route. It features inset illustrations of the High School and Court House.
