This panoramic print of Hastings, Minnesota was drawn by Albert Ruger and published by Chicago Lithographing Co. in 1867. Lake City was created in the 1850's as a trading center for grain.
Lake City's location along the Mississippi River afforded steamboats deep water portage at a wide portion known as Lake Pepin. Minnesota’s grain trade enabled Lake City to prosper greatly during this early period.
The map includes labeled streets, buildings and port activity. The featured steamer “War Eagle” is featured in the foreground.
