This aero-view print of Mahanoy City, Pennsylvania was drawn by Thaddeus Mortimer Fowler and published by T. M. Fowler & James B. Moyer in 1889. Mahanoy City was incorporated in 1863. Its location in the valley of the Pennsylvania anthracite coal regions was important to the community��s history. Served by branches of the Lehigh Valley and the Philadelphia and Reading Railroads, Mahanoy City prospered with mining and transportation of coal as well as the manufacture of mining equipment.

The map from 1889 includes labeled streets, buildings and railroad lines. It features inset illustrations of the following:
