This bird’s-eye view print of Middleborough, Massachusetts was drawn and published by O. H. Bailey & Co. in 1889. Middleborough was incorporated in 1669 amid the ponds and waterways of the Taunton River valley.
In the late 1800's, Middleborough maintained a number of fine boot and shoe factories, as well as a thriving bonnet making industry. The popularity of straw hats during that era spurred the development of a large straw works near Middleborough.
