Historic Map - Mohnton (formerly Mohnsville), PA - 1898
Description
This panoramic print of Mohnton, Pennsylvania was drawn and published by Bailey & Fowler in 1898. Benjamin Mohn purchased a farm along Wyomissing Creek in 1846. Stores and mills were built near the creek and Mohnsville was laid out. The community flourished as factories were established; hat factories being the most prominent. The fast running creek powered these profitable hat manufactories as well as a popular gun barrel factory operated by William Pennepacker. Mohnsville prospered with these manufacturers and was incorporated in 1907 adjusting its name to Mohnton.
The map from 1903 includes streets, buildings and railroad lines. It features inset illustrations of the following:
