Historic Map - New Kensington, PA - 1896
Description
This panoramic print of New Kensington, Pennsylvania was drawn by Thaddeus Mortimer Fowler and published by T. M. Fowler & James B. Moyer in 1896. New Kensington was founded in 1891 as a vision of the Burrell Improvement Company. The company bought the farmlands that existed along the Allegheny River and sold them, with riverfront parcels reserved for industry. For three days prospective buyers waded through corn fields with only furrows for streets and by the end the company sold $135,000 in property.
The map from 1896 includes streets, buildings, ferry route and railroad lines.
