This colorful bird’s-eye view print of Norton, Massachusetts was drawn and published by O. H. Bailey & Co. in 1891. The village of Norton was settled in the mid-1600's amid the tributaries of the Taunton River. Its neighboring villages of Barrowsville, Chartley, East Norton and Norton Furnace were incorporated into Norton in the early 1700's.
The different villages had their own unique industries, which enabled Norton to become an important manufacturing center. General farming was also performed throughout the region, as well as poultry-raising and milk production.
Wheaton College was established at Norton in the 1830's as Wheaton Female Seminary.
