This panoramic print of Oakland, Maryland was drawn by T. M. Fowler and published by Fowler & Kelly in 1906. Oakmont is situated around headwaters of the Potomac River in western Maryland. It was established along the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad, which maintained a stop there.
The town gained momentum when nearby Mountain Lake Park was established in the late 1800's as a summer resort town for those of the Methodist faith. Oakland was the largest town around the resort village and held many seasonal festivities for visiting vacationers.
The map indicates Oakland as being 2,700 feet above sea level and having a population of 1600. It includes labeled streets, buildings and railroad route.
