Description
View of Pawtucket, Providence County, R.I., 1877 / drawn & published by O. H. Bailey & J. C. Hazen.
This bird’s-eye view print of Pawtucket, Rhode Island was drawn and published by O. H. Bailey & J. C. Hazen, C. H. Vogt, lith. in 1877. Pawtucket was founded in the 1600's along the Blackstone River.
Pawtucket gained momentum during the Industrial Revolution as the production of American-made manufactures increased. Production of cottons and other textiles were carried out in the many mills that emerged here. Pawtucket maintained the many employees of these factories, as well as supportive industries of the mills.
In 1861, Pawtucket became part of Rhode Island as borders between that state and Massachusetts were altered.
The illustration shows labeled streets, bridges, waterways, buildings and railroad and streetcar routes.
