This panoramic print of Paxton, Illinois was drawn by Albert Ruger and published by Merchant’s Lithographing Co. in 1869. The town originally called Prairie City and then Prospect City was incorporated and renamed after Sir Joseph Paxton in the mid-1800's.
Paxton had designed London’s Crystal Palace and was a stockholder of the Illinois Central Railroad. Paxton was served by the popular railway and housed Augustana College from 1863 until 1875.
The map includes labeled streets, buildings and railroad route.
