This panoramic print of Providence, Rhode Island, showing the new railroad station and State House, was drawn by J. R. Chapin and published by Providence Albertype Co. in 1895. Providence was founded at the head of Narragansett Bay in the 1630's by theologian Roger Williams.

Providence boomed during the American Industrial Revolution as many new manufacturers emerged early-on to take advantage of new marketing options. Cotton goods were manufactured and furniture made. Leather makers, coppersmiths and pewterers emerged, and with excellent shipping ability, Providence gained a head start on American-made manufactures. Providence was noteworthy as maintaining several fine jewelers and clockmakers during this era.

The low-angle bird��s-eye view shows the bustling and modern downtown core of Providence in the 1890's. The title indicates the illustration to be a supplement to the Providence Sunday Journal, Feb. 3, 1895.
