Historic Map - Sandy Hill (Hudson Falls), NY - 1884
Description
This reproduction bird's-eye view map of Sandy Hill or Hudson Falls, as it is known today, was published by Lucien R. Burleigh in 1884. The community of Sandy Hill established itself near Baker's Falls and Albert Baker's sawmill along the Hudson River in 1810. Mainly a lumber town, Sandy Hill maintained a stone quarry that was selected to provide stone in the building of the Brooklyn Bridge. Work on the bridge was completed one year before this map's publishing. After 100 years of being named Sandy Hills, the town would adopt the name Hudson Falls in 1910.
This panoramic map from 1884 shows buildings, clearly labeled streets and railroad routes.
