Historic Map - Strasburg, PA - 1903
Description
View of Strasburg, Lancaster County, P.A., 1903 / drawn & published by T. M. Fowler.
This aero-view print of Strasburg, Pennsylvania was drawn and published by Thaddeus Mortimer Fowler in 1903. Strasburg was established along the Old Conestoga turnpike, about nine miles southeast of Lancaster, in the 1700's. The town was incorporated as a borough in 1816.
Pine plank-paved streets were a common sight in Strasburg until the early 1880's. The wooden streets were problematic for residents as they often were left in disrepair. As officials of Strasburg prohibited the further building of the wood roads, the roads were left to wear out by there own means until 1881, when they were paved with either brick or stone.
