Description

Ticonderoga, N.Y. Burleigh Lithographing Establishment.

This reproduction bird's-eye view map of Ticonderoga, New York was published by R. M. Adkins and Burleigh Lithographing Establishment in 1891. Ticonderoga is a town in Essex County that lies between Lake George and Lake Champlain. Founded in 1804, several mills along the fast moving river in town manufactured paper, lead pencils and other wooden products in the 1800's. The nearby Fort Ticonderoga, formerly Fort Carillon was an important stronghold during the French and Indian War, as well as the American Revolutionary War. Lord Howe's Monument was erected here to honor the young nobleman Brigadier General Lord Howe, who was ambushed and killed by the French at Fort Ticonderoga in 1758.

This panoramic map from 1891 shows Ticonderoga's buildings, railroad route and clearly labeled streets.
