This bird’s-eye view print of Turners Falls, Massachusetts was drawn and published by O. H. Bailey & Co. in 1877. Turners Falls is a village along the Connecticut River in northwestern Massachusetts. An earlier lock-canal was rebuilt at that location in 1869, to power the industries that were established along it. The village of Turners Falls was formed in this era to house and serve the workers of the factories.
Turners Falls is now considered part of Montague.
The hand-colored illustration includes labeled roads, buildings, bridges, waterways and railroad route. Noted at the bottom, “Entire Length of Dam about 1000 Feet, with a perpendicular fall of 30 feet, and 41 feet at J. R. Co., etc., etc.” There are featured illustrations of the following:
