Historic Map - Tyrone, PA - 1895
Description
This aero-view print of Tyrone, Pennsylvania was drawn by Thaddeus Mortimer Fowler and published by T. M. Fowler & James B. Moyer in 1895.
Tyrone began to be served by the Pennsylvania, Tyrone and Clearfield, Tyrone and Lock Haven, and Lewisburg and Tyrone railroads in the mid-1800's.
When bituminous coal was discovered in nearby Clearfield County, Tyrone became the valley’s outlet of the valuable fuel source. Tyrone was also home to the massive Morrison & Cass Paper Co. along Bald Eagle Creek as well as a railroad roundhouse and switching yard.
