This bird’s-eye view print of Warner, New Hampshire was drawn and published by George E. Norris around 1887. Warner was settled at the southern base of Mount Kearsarge in the mid-1700's as Amesbury. The farming community was incorporated in 1774 as Warner. Area farmers grew vegetables, grain and fruit, and produced dairy goods and meat.
Mills emerged in the early 1800's along the Warner River. Warner manufacturers produced furniture, gloves and woolen cloth.
The Simonds Free High School was established in 1871 on land donated by Hon. Franklin Simonds.
A road from Hurricane Gate to the top of Mount Kearsarge was completed in 1874. Warner could be reached via the Concord & Claremont Railroad in the 1880's.
The view includes labeled roads, buildings, bridges, waterways and railroad route.
