Historic Map - Winona County, MN - 1867
Description
View of Winona County, M.N., 1867 / drawn & published by L. G. Bennett.
This panoramic print of Winona County, Minnesota was drawn by Lyman G. Bennett and published by C. Shober & Co. in 1867. Winona County was formed in 1854 along the banks and bluffs of the Mississippi River.
Winona County prospered in its early years harvesting timber, and raising and processing wheat. The river’s access and new railroad connections enabled good transportation of raw and processed materials from Winona County.
By the late 1860's, the county seat town of Winona was the fourth largest wheat shipping port in the country. An iron swing-span bridge later replaced the flat-boat crossing pictured.
The illustration includes Winona and its buildings, ferry boat landing and vicinity.
