Historic Map - Wolfeborough, NH - 1889
Description
This bird’s-eye view print of Wolfeborough, New Hampshire was drawn and published by George E. Norris, Burleigh Lith. in 1889. Wolfeborough was settled at the end of a peaceful harbor off southeastern Lake Winnipesaukee in the 1760's. The town was an early summer get-a-way destination for New Englanders.
Brewster Academy was founded in 1820 by the local community as Wolfeboro & Tuftonboro Academy. The institution became Brewster Free Academy in 1887, named for benefactor John Brewster. The school, at that time, offered free tuition to Wolfeborough area residents.
The illustration includes labeled roads, buildings, waterways and railroad route. It features an inset illustration of South Wolfeboro.
