This detailed daguerreotype print of York, Pennsylvania was drawn by Williams Co. lith. and published by E. Sachse & Co. in 1852. York was settled by Europeans in the mid-1700's in the fertile valley surrounding Codorus Creek.
The creek was navigable from that point to its mouth on the Susquehanna River.
The one-time capital of the United States maintained a vital agricultural community in the 1800's.
The view from Harrisburg Road includes bridge, buildings, pasturelands and creek. It features inset illustrations of the following:
