Historical Map - Fair Haven, Vermont - 1886
Description
Ebenezer Allen and 76 associates received the first charter for Fair Haven, Vermont in 1779. Colonel Matthew Lyon began building mills along the Castleton River in 1783, including a gristmill, sawmill, papermill and forge.
Quarrying and the manufacture of slate began in 1846. Several of the slate works are referenced on the map.
